In the latest installment of our Ask a Dev series, iOS director Sean McMains explains that developers can use tools to distribute beta copies of an app without going through the App Store.

He says developers can earn an Enterprise Certificate through Apple that allows creators to distribute apps through their own means.
Additionally, the video, above, looks at the best ways to create an interactive storybook on iOS. McManis says that developers can either create a fully independent storybook app or they can create a product within iBooks.
“Storybooks have a lot in common with games, so using a kit that’s designed for games, like SpriteKit, is a very reasonable way to go,” he says.
The perk of developing an independent app with a game kit is that it allows for a lot of flexibility, he says, but creators will need an intimate knowledge of programming languages to develop this way. He suggests people with less technical knowledge use iBooks Author to easily create photo-rich storybooks for iOS.
